Video: Bernie Sanders Gets A Pop Quiz Question On The Difference Between”Equity” And “Equality” – The Reaction Of The Audience Says It All

Bernie Sanders is a well-known figure in American politics, a senator from Vermont who has run for president multiple times. He has long been an advocate for progressive policies and social justice issues, and his views on economic equality have been a central theme of his political career.

Recently, Senator Sanders was asked a question that tested his knowledge of a distinction that is central to many debates about social justice: the difference between “equity” and “equality.”

The question came during Real Time With Bill Maher.

Video below:

As you can see the audience openly laughed at him in response.
Sanders did not know the difference between equality and equity, and yet the federal govt spending billions of dollars on equity training right now in every single federal agency. If a U.S. Senator doesn’t know the difference, why are we spending that money?

The exchange between Sanders and Maher highlights an important distinction that is often lost in debates about social justice: the difference between “equality” and “equity.” While the two terms are often used interchangeably, they have different meanings and implications for policy.

Equity in education means that if you are deemed a protected group, you get more resources ($$$$.) It’s just a nifty way to institute institutionalized racism.
