Chicago, IL – Michelle Obama’s latest podcast episode has reignited divorce rumors surrounding her marriage to former President Barack Obama, with a pointed comment about his financial status early in their relationship drawing sharp reactions online. The remark, made during a conversation with her brother Craig Robinson on their new podcast IMO, comes as the couple’s media ventures struggle to gain traction, fueling speculation about tension in their personal and professional lives.
The episode, titled “Pursue What You Love Before You Pursue Love,” aired on March 31 and has barely scraped 11,000 views in 11 hours—a dismal showing for a project backed by the Obamas’ Higher Ground media company. In the clip, shared widely on X by user @LangmanVince, Craig asks Michelle, “Would you be attracted to a guy who’s not financially sound when you meet him?” Without missing a beat, Michelle quips, “Uh, I married one,” taking a clear jab at Barack. Craig, playing along, laughs and says, “Don’t you like that alley-oop I just threw you? In basketball, you just point, you don’t even have to say it.” The exchange has racked up thousands of views on X, with conservatives like Vince Langman slamming Michelle as a “phony narcissist” for the dig.

The comment has poured fuel on long-simmering divorce rumors, which have intensified since Barack’s candid CBS Mornings interview last year, where he admitted that being out of the White House has helped their marriage. Michelle has also been open about past struggles, once saying she “couldn’t stand” Barack for a decade of their 30-year marriage. Critics on X, including @MidLifeVirus, seized on the podcast remark, pointing to the Obamas’ financial history: “They had to grease the deal to even buy that first house which was around 300,000. They both are ratchet.” Indeed, the Obamas were reportedly deep in debt before Barack’s 2008 presidential win, with student loans lingering from their Harvard Law days. Today, their net worth is estimated at $70 million, largely from book deals and speaking engagements, according to a 2025 Wikipedia entry on Barack Obama.
The IMO podcast, meant to showcase Michelle and Craig’s “unique experiences and candid perspectives,” has been a flop since its March 13 launch. A report from voz.us noted that its first three episodes collectively failed to break 40,000 views on YouTube, despite a major ad campaign. Conservative commentator Benny Johnson mocked the low numbers, writing on X, “Michelle Obama’s first couple podcast episodes absolutely flopped.” The latest episode’s poor performance—coupled with Michelle’s jab at Barack—has only amplified the narrative of a couple drifting apart, both in the public eye and behind closed doors.

One cannot get a divorce if one is never legally married. Michael (Michelle) Robinson and Barry Soetoro have been together as husband and ‘wife’ for many years. When did they get married? They were together before the SCOTUS removed prohibitions against same-sex marriage, so their ‘marriage’ was illegal not only for being same-sex, but I presumed that they used their pseudonyms, Michelle and Barak, making the ‘marriage’ fraudulent, as well.
Where is their marriage license?
