Lee Greenwood performed his biggest hit, “God Bless the USA,” during the Make America Great Again! Welcome Celebration on Thursday.
Readers can press play on the video above to watch Greenwood’s performance. He received a welcome from Tim Rushlow (formerly of Little Texas), Lonestar‘s Richie McDonald and Restless Heart‘s Larry Stewart, who performed just before Greenwood took the stage.
Greenwood says that he believes the numerous artists who have declined to be part of Trump’s inauguration festivities will “regret not going in the future.”
“You don’t get this invitation very often,” he notes, later adding, “I feel sorry for people who would turn down this invitation.”
Greenwood continues, “You need to support [Trump] and all the things he plans to do for America, and not bow down to what is said on social media and gossip … I live here in a rural community in Nashville, and I frequent a lot of local places … No one comes up to me and says, ‘Why are you going? Why are you singing for the president?’”
For the fourth time in his career, country artist Lee Greenwood performed his signature song for an incoming Republican administration. On Thursday (Jan. 19), Greenwood sang “God Bless the U.S.A.” at the “Make America Great Again” celebration to mark Friday’s inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump.
Greenwood took the stage — on the steps of Washington, D.C.’s Lincoln Memorial — following a medley of songs from the Frontmen of Country. With Trump and his family watching, the L.A. native performed the 1984 single.
Lee Greenwood, 74, had the audience roaring when he performed “God Bless the U.S.A.” during the Make America Great Again! Welcome Celebration at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. He was joined by the Frontmen of Country on stage for a rousing rendition of the hit song, and they sounded great as backup!
The patriotic Donald Trump sang along during Lee’s performance.
