Two Guatemalans Indicted in Florida for Sexually Abusing 7-Year-Old—Their Potential Penalty Fits the Crime

Florida is proving once again that real justice requires real consequences. Two Guatemalan nationals, Josue D. Mendez-Sales, 27, and Pablo N. Cobon-Mendez, 23, have been indicted by a Palm Beach County grand jury on charges of repeatedly sexually abusing a 7-year-old girl. Both men now face the harshest penalties under Florida law—including the death penalty.

According to prosecutors, the two illegal immigrants abused the child for weeks, and in interviews with police, both men allegedly admitted to the monstrous crimes. Palm Beach County State Attorney Alexcia Cox made it clear that her office will pursue the most severe punishment allowed by law, saying:

“Heinous and cruel crimes, like sexual battery on our children, will never be tolerated in our community.”

Florida’s expanded death penalty laws for child rapists, signed by Governor Ron DeSantis, ensure that predators like these face either life in prison or execution. It’s a clear and uncompromising message: child predators will not be coddled—they will be crushed.

This case underscores the catastrophic cost of Joe Biden’s open-border agenda. These men should have never been in America in the first place. Under Trump’s leadership, a secure border and strict immigration enforcement drastically reduced the opportunities for predators to slip into our communities. But with Biden and Harris, sanctuary policies and weak enforcement have left American children vulnerable to the very worst kind of evil.

The No Repeat Child Sex Offenders Act (H.R. 393) shows what real accountability looks like—life behind bars or the death penalty. Florida is leading where Washington has failed, demonstrating the kind of toughness that every state should embrace.

Protecting children requires zero tolerance. No loopholes. No second chances. No excuses. Justice in Florida now means exactly what it should: those who prey on kids will face a punishment that truly fits the crime.
