Texas Gov. Greg Abbott Might Remove Officeholders in Sanctuary Cities

We all know that Texas Gov. Greg Abbot said that he will cut off funding to any public school that declares itself a “sanctuary campus” for illegal immigrants.

Abbot made the announcement in response to a petition effort in the state by students seeking to have their universities protect illegal immigrants. Abbott made it clear such a move wouldn’t fly in Texas.
But today he sends even stronger message when it comes to sanctuary cities!
A provision in a proposed ban on so-called sanctuary cities that passed the Republican-controlled state Senate on Wednesday would allow for criminal charges against city or county officials who intentionally don’t comply. Any county elected official, such as a sheriff, would face immediate removal from office if convicted of official misconduct.
The measure now goes to the Texas House, which also has a large Republican majority.

Texas Republican lawmakers are readying a bill that would allow for criminal charges against city or county officials who intentionally don’t comply. Any county elected official, such as a sheriff, would face immediate removal from office if convicted of official misconduct, AP reported.

The Texas bill is the latest sign some states are ready to comply with President Trump’s executive orders on illegal immigration. Trump also plans to enforce existing laws that should give him plenty of tools to pressure local officials who refuse to detain illegal immigrants.
At last, someone has the guts to actually try to do this. More power to him. We should have no Sanctuary anything for illegal immigrants. They should not be here and they need to go back home.
Sanctuary cities are clearly breaking law — law passed in the 1990s.

Title 8, Section 1373 of the U.S. Code states plainly that “a Federal, State, or local government entity or official may not prohibit, or in any way restrict, any government entity or official from sending to, or receiving from, the Immigration and Naturalization Service information regarding the citizenship or immigration status, lawful or unlawful, of any individual.”

But in Texas, as with most states, the Republicans control the state legislature and have indicated they will not tolerate sanctuary cities.
Many of the cities that implement policies to frustrate efforts by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement office are known as “sanctuary cities.”

Well why wouldn’t you remove them? They are breaking federal law with no state’s right to do so.
