Pritzker Hands Victory to GOP: Tone-Deaf Answer on Violent Weekend Sparks Outrage (Video)
Illinois Governor JB Pritzker may have just given Republicans one of their easiest campaign ads for years to come. After a blood-soaked Labor Day weekend in Chicago that saw at least 58 people shot — with 8 killed — Pritzker was asked the obvious: Do you really think Chicago is safe?
His response? A dismissive shrug.
NBC 5 reporter Mary Ann Ahern put it bluntly: would Pritzker invite his own friends to ride Chicago’s L train late at night after such a violent weekend? Instead of addressing the concerns of everyday Chicagoans, Pritzker launched into a deflection — essentially saying crime is normal for big cities and trying to shift the blame onto President Trump and red states.
“Look, big cities have crime. There’s no doubt about it. But let’s just pay attention to what President Trump is doing, targeting Chicago. He’s overlooking red states that have much higher crime rates,” Pritzker said.

This is the same governor who mocked Trump over the weekend when the former president highlighted Chicago’s rising body count. Instead of engaging with reality, Pritzker joined the Lincoln Project rumor mill about Trump’s health, writing, “Why don’t you send everyone proof of life first? (Either way, Chicago doesn’t want you here).”
That kind of arrogance might win applause from the far left, but for Illinois residents living under the daily threat of gang shootings and carjackings, it comes across as tone-deaf at best and heartless at worst.
Meanwhile, the facts remain: 54 shot, 7 dead in just three days. Victims include teenagers and innocent bystanders — people whose only mistake was being in the wrong place at the wrong time in a city spiraling out of control.
President Trump has already vowed to “solve the crime problem in Chicago fast” — a promise that resonates more with residents than Pritzker’s hand-waving excuses.
If Pritzker really believes this “big cities have crime” line will carry him into a 2028 presidential run, he’s even more out of touch than anyone realized. For now, his non-answer is a gift to Republicans who only have to replay his words against the backdrop of Chicago’s gunfire-filled weekends.
Voters see the reality. And it’s not Pritzker’s fantasy.

Tell me any city in any Red state with a crime rate as high, or higher, than Chicago you POS Governor? Even all the US Military KIA’s in both Iraq and Afghanistan over the same time frame don’t beat Chicago…….by more than 3 to 1 deaths in Chicago than on the battlefields in war zones.
Oh, the ol’ “red states have more crime” ploy. Red states have DEEP BLUE CITIES that have all the crime and those DEEP BLUE CITIES have DEMOCRAT MAYORS and Democrat leadership. Dems always twist the truth.
Pritzker is just another fat-ass, lying, cheating, crooked, pile of dog-schitt DemocRAT.
