In a presidential memorandum released Saturday, Trump ordered Bondi to pursue sanctions against lawyers who engage in “frivolous, unreasonable, and vexatious litigation” meant to “harass” or “cause unnecessary delay,” per the New York Post.
“Far too many attorneys and law firms have long ignored these requirements when litigating against the Federal Government or in pursuing baseless partisan attacks,” Trump declared, pointing to civil procedure rules. The Trump administration’s faced over 100 lawsuits since late January, with courts slapping 15 injunctions last month alone—outpacing Obama and Biden’s legal roadblocks, per The Wall Street Journal. These include blocks on Trump’s birthright citizenship executive order and his use of the Alien Enemies Act to deport Venezuelan Tren de Aragua gangbangers, as Chief Justice John Roberts and rogue judges like James Boasberg push back, per Reuters.
Trump’s legal team has petitioned the Supreme Court to curb lower courts’ injunction powers, but his new directive shows he’s done playing defense.
