Robert De Niro is now saying America should give Trump a chance. The Hill reported: Robert De Niro is striking a more diplomatic tone regarding President-elect Donald Trump, whom he previously said he’d like to “punch … in the face.” “I would only say that we’re all hoping, waiting and hoping, that he will lead the country in a way that’ll benefit everyone and benefit our neighbors around the world,” De Niro told ITK on Tuesday when asked what message he’d want to share with Trump. “That’s all,” the “Godfather Part II” star said.
One of the most storied acting careers in all of Hollywood was seriously tarnished prior to the presidential election when the beloved De Niro released a campaign video in which he stated:
“He’s a punk, he’s a dog, he’s a pig, he’s a con, a bullshit artist…he talks about how he’d like to punch people in the face. Well, I’d like to punch him in the face.”
When Hillary Clinton lost, De Niro compared the election of Trump to the terrorist attacks on 9/11 that killed over 3,000 Americans.
Now that the Democrat Party has been pummeled by the American voters, De Niro is singing a different tune. Suddenly, the actor wants to take a wait and see approach.
Via Fox News:
Actor Robert De Niro appeared to soften his tone toward President-elect Donald Trump on Tuesday when he was asked what message he would share with the soon-to-be 45th U.S. president.
“I would only say that we’re all hoping, waiting and hoping, that he will lead the country in a way that’ll benefit everyone and benefit our neighbors around the world,” De Niro told ITK, according to The Hill.
“We’re waiting and hoping, and we’ll see.”
The “Raging Bull” actor’s comments appear to be a complete turnaround from the disparaging remarks he made about the real estate mogul in October.
Of Trump, De Niro said “he’s a punk, he’s a dog, he’s a pig, he’s a con, a bulls— artist, a mutt who doesn’t know what he’s talking about.”
Safe to say De Niro won’t be accepting the offer of asylum made by a small town in southern Italy anytime soon.
He’s welcome in Trump’s America, of course. Conservatives don’t kick people out or try to ruin their careers based on their first Amendment right to free speech.
But it would be nice if he’d stop acting like a Focker by making such asinine comments.
