Two More States Follow California’s Decision To Ban Gas Car Sales By 2035 – Dozens Other States Might Also Announce Electric Car Mandates Soon
It’s only a day since we reported on California’s intention to outlaw sales of new combustion-engined vehicles from 2035, and already the ripples are being felt across the nation.
The California Air Resources Board (CARB) that governs motor vehicle emissions for the state adopted new rules that will require 35% of the new cars sold in the state are electric or plug-in hybrids by 2026, with that percentage rising to 68% by 2030 and 100% by 2035.
California has a waiver from the federal government to set its own air quality rules, and other states are allowed to opt into its regulations, which are typically more stringent than the national standards.
Washington and Massachusetts have laws on the books that were written to trigger gas car sales bans if CARB passed one.
Both Washington and Massachusetts are set to follow California’s lead, and other states will surely follow.
“This is a critical milestone in our climate fight. Washington set in law a goal for all new car sales to be zero emissions by 2030 and we’re ready to adopt California’s regs by end of this year,” Inslee tweeted ahead of CARB’s final decision.
Washington has over 100,000 electric vehicles registered, giving it one of the highest per capita concentrations in the U.S., with EVs accounting for 8% of registrations in July.
Like Washington, Massachusetts has laws that mean a ban on new ICE vehicles will come into force if CARB passes such a law, and multiple other states also take a lead from CARB’s emissions regulations.
More states will probably follow this “trend”!
Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Nevada, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virginia, Vermont and Washington D.C., currently follow CARB rules on car emissions, but they have not yet officially announced electric car mandates.
Majority of Americans will probably be against this mandate!
Nevertheless, at the end of the manufacturing process, electric cars are the ones generating more carbon emissions, according to the Union of Concerned Scientists. Why is this? Because electric cars store energy in large batteries (the larger they are, the bigger their range is) that have high environmental costs.

Bruce Hoenshell is a military historian, he is one of the most prolific conservative writers today, often churning out multiple columns per week. His writings tend to focus on international themes, modern warfare. Style Sampling: “ It is not that we need social networking and Internet searches more than food and fuel, but rather that we have the impression that cool zillionaires in flip-flops are good while uncool ones in wingtips are quite bad.”
The “climate hoaxers” are gonna attempt to drive these expensive vehicle turkeys down everyone’s throat. Just one problem, and a big one, where are these leftist governors and legislatures going to find the extra electrical capacity for recharging and all the rare earth metals required? This is a leftist hysteria about “the sky is falling.” Chicken Little, call your office.
Good! Let their grids go down first. Intelligent states won’t dare pass the same laws.
What I don’t understand is.
Even IF everyone said, oh ok,you know that IS cool, i’m onboard! You can’t GET the cars!! They are backordered, year waiting list etc etc. We won’t even begin to start on the lack of infrastructure to support them. So HOW is this miracle to save the earth going to happen huh?
At the rate things are going, in ten years few will have enough money to buy one! Once again, this is the radical left’s attempt to destroy the middle class and go back to the dark ages of a few hundred years ago when there were ONLY two classes. Those in power (the wealthy) and the serfs (the rest of us)!
Someone will sue the state. We’ll see how it goes…
I guess if you want more people to participate in the electoral process, all you need to do is pass really stupid laws. At the extreme end of this, people will call family members, in other states and have them bring enough gas for them to escape California.
Now, Lucy, can you esplain to me, how making people less free is good? Because making a state look like Cuba is a bad idea.
look like Cuba?? It already looks like Mexico…
Guess the retards with their chests puffed out bragging about killing off the ICE cars and touting the EV’s and plug in hybrid do forget that the hybrid is also an ICE propelled vehicle. doh!
“Fight climate change”? “Climate change” is a HOAX. It’s BS. Not science.
I first learned it was a hoax when 2 professors at East Anglia college in England got their emails hacked and it was learned they supplied false data to other climate scientists. East Anglia at the time was a clearinghouse of sorts for data. This was WAY back in the late 90’s I think.
If blue states weren’t having enough problem with the mass exodus, now they are ramping it up bigtime. People will simply go to Nevada or Arizona to buy a gas car. Or they will move.
you won’t be able to import a gas car from another state after some arbitrary year, in the meantime you will be charged some sort of importation fee that’ll be roughly the price of the car.
Cars are not the problem. Climate is not the problem. They’re lying to you all and half of you fearfully eat it right up and are ready to do whatever your masters in gubmint tell you to do.
So the future is filled with aging muscle cars?
no, there will be an escalating carbon tax on them
The federal government uses a lot of energy, and is significantly contributing Global Climate Change at a global level… The US federal government easily has the largest carbon footprint on the entire planet, by no small measure…
We only have a couple months to turn the tide, or it will be too late! We must immediately shut down power to all federal offices nationwide, eliminate all federal employees and their carbon footprints, and cease all regulatory operations, as it has been conclusively determined that the single largest contributor to Global Climate Change worldwide, are the regulatory agencies of governments, chief among them, the USA…
The science is settled! There’s no time left! If you disagree you’re a flat-earth espousing climate denier with white supremacist goals!
A single Tesla battery weighing 1,000 pounds requires extracting and processing some 500,000 pounds of materials. At this rate, over the next thirty years we will need to mine more mineral ores than humans have extracted over the last 70,000 years. #GreenEnergy
A typical EV battery weighs one thousand pounds, about the size of a travel trunk. It contains twenty-five pounds of lithium, sixty pounds of nickel, 44 pounds of manganese, 30 pounds cobalt, 200 pounds of copper, and 400 pounds of aluminum, steel, and plastic. Inside are over 6,000 individual lithium-ion cells.
To manufacture each EV auto battery, you must process 25,000 pounds of brine for the lithium, 30,000 pounds of ore for the cobalt, 5,000 pounds of ore for the nickel, and 25,000 pounds of ore for copper. All told, you dig up 500,000 pounds of the earth’s crust for one battery.”
And that’s just the beginning of the environmental destruction…
the people that wet themselves over ‘net zero’ are a religious sect, nothing to do with science or rational investigation of the claims.
Net zero is not a “religious sect”. It’s a cult.
Better hold on to your gas car, you may need it when electric cars prove too expensive to run, the electric supply just isn’t there, and the warnings about it prove to be true. The whole thing has been rushed through for political purposes when there are much better alternatives that wouldn’t line the pockets of the producers as well.
Good more for us and it should be cheaper.
How STUPID can BE!!!!!!!!!!!!
Stupidity of liberals is endless.
EVs are not about saving the environment. It’s about the privileged elites controlling the peasants.
You can’t fix stupid
Haha haha commie idiots.
Could a governor in another state choose to ban sales of electric vehicles? If governors can take away everyone’s freedom of choice related to gasoline vehicle, it seems that other governors have the power to take away the freedom of choice when it comes to the ability to buy electric vehicles in the state. Also, what if a governor decides that TVs above a certain maximum size cannot be sold in the state because of power consumption? And what if the governor decides the maximum TV size is only 32″?
a ‘free’ state doesn’t care what you run. EV’s will be your choice, not the government’s.
Buy out of state.
So people will be driving their gas-powered cars from CA, MA and WA to better states. Not exactly news.
More for us.
“California has a waiver from the federal government to set its own air quality rules, and other states are allowed to opt into its regulations, which are typically more stringent than the national standards.”
THERE’S your trouble.
originally it was about LA and other coastal cities because the mountains kept the smog trapped. It makes little sense now.
California continues to show that it’s governor, “Nuisance” has little intelligence and what he does have evidently is trapped in his rear end! Calif. already has a power shortage, with brown and black outs periodically during hot weather. Where, may I ask, will he get the power to charge these “electric” only vehicles and what about people living in high rise bldgs.? Where are they going to charge their “electric only” cars? Not to mention the “trucks”, that Californians depend on to deliver the products they need to survive. And this jackazz wants to be President? Isn’t braindead Biden bad enough?
IS that Mad Max I see..coming to a city near you?
Just buy out of state and if the commie state will not let you register it, Register it in another state. A lot of people already do this due to commie states charging exorbitant registration fees.
Concerning customers: You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make them drink.
Concerning raw materials: You can’t squeeze blood from a turnip.
Concerning Democrats: A majority of them are incredibly uneducated and a scourge to America.
Everyone is overlooking the obvious! The gubmerment is not going to give us electric vehicles! We will not buy them so they are history. The only people I personally know who own electric or hybrid cars are fools! Liberal non thinking fools! The common man decides what he will buy! ASK FORD ABOUT THE EDSEL!
Why was the Ford Edsel a failure?

“Ugly, overpriced, over hyped, poorly made and poorly timed, the Edsel was made for only two years. In the end, the failed program cost Ford $250 million [source: Carlson]. The “car of the future” is now a cautionary tale in business classrooms, though there were actually a few winners in the case of the Edsel.”
Car makers today feel the market and go for sales. ELECTRIC CAR AND TRUCK IS A NON-STARTER!
Watch the populations in these three states drop over the next ten years! And watch the populations of red states grow massively. Even illegals, for the most part, want to move forward (jobs, product availability, reasonable cost of living). All those nut cases who want to live off of someone else’s paycheck, and without power and transportation (hard to believe there are people who actually agree with these insane policies) will end up in blue states, helping to accelerate the productive members of those states departure.
Bob Cody: Ever hear of Frederick Turner, Mr. Oliver?
Neal Oliver: No, sir.
Bob Cody: Well, he was an historian. About a hundred years ago he came up with a theory about the frontier. He said the frontier was a safety valve for civilization, a place for people to go to keep from goin’ mad. So, whenever there were folks who couldn’t fit in with the way things were, nuts, and malcontents, and extremists, they’d pack up and head for the frontier. That’s how America got started – all the crackpots and troublemakers in Europe packed up and went to a frontier which became the thirteen colonies. When some people couldn’t fit in with that, they moved farther west, which is why all the nuts eventually ended up in California.
[From the movie “Interstate 60”]
It appears that some of the nuts went a little north of California…and some never left the Eastern Seaboard.
