Seattle Police Must Refer To “Suspects” As “Community members”

You have to be kidding! The whole concept that the far left set for us- to not offend anyone (except conservatives I guess) resulted with police in Seattle no longer to be allowed to call a suspect – a “suspect.”

Instead, they must refer to him, her, or other as “community member, the same way they relate to law abiding citizens such as me and you.

This is absolutely pathetic. Isn’t a community member someone who contributes and offers goodness to a community. That fails to clearly identify why the police would hold a person in their custody, and it implies that all community members are crime suspects. A total and complete fail for the City of Seattle.

Police sources point to the suspect who shot three officers last month after a downtown Seattle armed robbery. But when officers were writing their use of force reports of the incident, they were required to refer to the shooter, Damarius Butts, as a “community member,” not a suspect.

Police fatally shot Butts after they said he shot the officers.

Seattle Police Officers’ Guild Kevin Stuckey said: “I think this is all in an effort to make sure our report writing sounds politically correct.”

The “community member” terminology changed for multiple forms – but it’s only in the use of force reports that officers find offensive.

“The change appears to be part of a routine update by the software developer, which services more than 600 law enforcement agencies worldwide,” department spokesman Jonah Spangenthal-Lee said.
He added: “The department’s force review section has not received any inquiries about the change.”

So if an individual apprehended by the police is no longer a “suspect” but now must be called a “community member” does that imply that all community members are now suspects? People on the west coast are no longer in touch with reality.

Ridiculous. Stop trying to change our way of life. People are called suspects for a reason. Based on the evidence, they are suspected of a crime. They will have their day in court. They are innocent until proven guilty. Sanitizing every word to make people feel better is totally crazy.
