Obama Tells Trump He Should Stand Up to Putin

On Thursday, President Obama appeared at a joint press conference with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and he actually had the gall to say that he hoped President-elect Donald Trump would stand up to Russia and their break from “values and international norms.”

Like many liberals, Obama has issues with facts and history and there are three important things that make his comments especially ridiculous — Russia annexed Crimea, propped up Syrian President Bashar Assad by killing thousands of civilians and fueled a Russian-backed armed conflict in Ukraine’s Donbass region — all things that occurred under his administration, as The Daily Caller pointed out.

Obama said that Trump shouldn’t  “simply take a realpolitik approach and suggest that if we just cut some deals with Russia, even if it hurts people or even if it violates international norms or even if it leaves smaller countries vulnerable or creates long-term problems in regions like Syria, that we just do whatever’s convenient at the time.”

The three things above are just the tip of the iceberg. Obama probably should have taken his own advice eight years ago, because “tough” isn’t a word to describe his Russian policy.

During the Obama administration, there have been two failed ceasefires between the U.S. and Russia in Syria, Russia was included in the disastrous Iran nuclear deal and the Syrian chemical weapons deal was a failure, the Daily Caller noted.

As far as international norms go, Russia has flouted those right under Obama’s nose. Russia violated the NEW Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty and removed itself from a nuclear security act with the U.S.

In addition to the annexation of Crimea, there are reports that Russian President Vladimir Putin is pushing forward his country’s border with Georgia, an ostensible ally of the U.S., a bit each day.

Back in October, Russia deployed incredibly powerful nuclear-capable missiles within range of all four of our NATO allies in the Baltic region, which Obama was silent about

Former National Security Agency analyst and national security expert John Schindler wrote in the Observer: “For Warsaw and several other NATO capitals, this move resembles a Baltic version of the Cuban Missile Crisis.”

Obama really does have a lot of nerve, but we already knew that. It’s too bad that he didn’t take his own advice eight years ago regarding Russia, perhaps things would have turned out differently.
