During his foreign policy speech on Monday, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump explained how he would go about making our country safe again. One of his primary goals, should he win the White House, was to implement a “Commission on Radical Islam” as well as an ideological test for those wishing to enter the country.Anyone wishing to enter the country would be subjected to “extreme vetting,” Trump said before the crowd at Youngstown, Ohio. But if you follow his logic, it’s clear his proposal wouldn’t only apply to radical Muslims.
Trump said his administration would establish a “clear principle” governing decisions related to immigration: “We should only admit into this country those who share our values and respect our people.”
“In addition to screening out all members or sympathizers of terrorist groups, we must also screen out any who have hostile attitudes toward our country or its principles — or who believe that Shariah law should supplant American law,” he continued.
Now, who can you think of who sympathizes with radical Islamic terror groups and hold “hostile attitudes” about America, its Founders and their principles?
Could Donald Trump actually be proposing a ban on the immigration of those who hold socialist or communist ideals that are antithetical to American freedom? We certainly hope so.
Trump did not explain how he would issue ideology tests, but one thing’s for certain — he’s not simply focusing on Muslims. If you express hostile ideas and attitudes against this country, you might have trouble getting in.
And that’s exactly as it should be.
This is an incredible pro-America stance, and it’s a power move on Trump’s part to revitalize patriotism while at the same time keeping out those who pose threats to our safety.
While the left would like to call Trump’s ideas bigoted, there is nothing wrong with ensuring those who enter the country share the same ideas and principles about it. There’s also nothing wrong with wanting to protect the country from radicals wish to destroy our country and what it stands for.
